what if

What if we were to act as if we were free?

“And if the world has ceased to hear you, say to the silent Earth: I flow. To the rushing water, speak: I am.” (Rainer Maria Rilke)

When I sit silent for a moment, this is what feels true amid the rush: My life a journey into recognition. Recognizing where I’ve been all along: Held in presence. Recognizing where a smaller me seeks to pull me, ever fearful and worried, its habitual past and future narrative. Recognizing: Yes, this part is held in the same presence. As worthy of love. Recognizing my addiction to me, my stories: Held also in presence.

Spacious, silent, witnessing. I am. I flow.

This is freedom. What if we were to act then, yes, as if we are free? Free from all self preoccupation? What if we could trust that we can finally love deeply AND act effectively? Our deepest presence in every small movement and absolutely still? I am. I flow.

What if we know already what this is like? It’s not even “as if.’
