the known and the knowing

"The known always changes; knowing never changes." (Rupert Spira)

The knowing of, for example: A worry thought. Breath as it begins, reverses, comes to an end, begins again. Small and large actions. Hanging clothes on a line, typing an email, taking a shower. Or hunger before eating, or sadness or joy. Seeing a cat or a flower or listening to a song. A judgment. Praise. Pleasure and pain.

The known always changes. Thoughts. Sensations. Perceptions. Feelings and imaginations. But through it all, and in it all, there is knowing. The knowing of these experiences.

Knowing never changes. The thread that is our ground.

This is the greatest secret, the most concealed, yet at once the most evident of things, the traditions say. This simple fact that throughout the storms of our experiences - all that moves, changes, appears and disappears - we simply are and are aware.

When I turn my attention toward this quiet knowing that imbues every aspect and cell of my life, might it lead me straight into what I can only describe as steadfast peace? Want to experiment with me?
